
PITTSBURGH, Pa., October 12 2011 – The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Day of Giving last week generated funding for local nonprofits at the rate of nearly $75 per second over the 24-hour giving period. The total raised for charitable organizations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties was $6,448,448

Guidelines & Criteria- Westmoreland Now & Forever Fund
“The mission of The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County’s unrestricted grantmaking is to strengthen communities, promote change and address overlapping community issues.”
The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County seeks to make unrestricted grants through two distinct and different areas of funding: Healthy Communities and Organizational Effectiveness. Please read below to see which area of interest best suits your organization.
Healthy Communities – in partnership with The Pittsburgh Foundation
To provide grants that specifically addresses each of our areas of interest:
Education: Quality pre-K through 12 Education- Increase Student Achievement for all children in all subject matter areas, with special emphasis on acquiring foundational skills necessary to master reading and mathematics, graduate from high school and transition to college or a meaningful career.
Health & Human Services: Improve community based systems of care that support the physical and behavioral health and well being of vulnerable populations in Westmoreland County.
Workforce Development: Develop systems and programs that prepare, recruit, promote and retain workers in growth industries. Improve opportunities for unemployed and low wage workers to become a valuable commodity in the labor market and thereby increase their earned income.
Environmental Awareness: Encourage community residents to understand the value of the resources in their surrounds, and to assess, understand and decrease their carbon footprint.
Arts & Cultures: Develop and sustain a diverse arts and cultures community that comprises of individual artists, arts organizations, arts service organizations, and cultural learning groups.
Neighborhoods & Communities: Increase participation in civic dialogue leading to community organizing, engagement and advance social change.
Organizational Effectiveness
Capacity Building: By supporting nonprofit organizations that require funding to advance their mission through investment in people and/or infrastructure.
Partnerships and Integrations: To support collaborative efforts between nonprofit organizations to eradicate duplication of service, improve efficiencies and, support merger and consolidation efforts.
Community Leverages Grants: A challenge grant program that enables nonprofit organizations to leverage funds in their community to either complete a capital expense project or purchase. $5,000 maximum award.
Who can Apply?
Any nonprofit organization with a 501 (c)(3) status located in Westmoreland County is eligible to submit a letter of inquiry. (While preference and priority will be given to nonprofit organizations located within Westmoreland County, consideration may be given to organizations located in contiguous counties that can demonstrate significant services to Westmoreland County residents).
The Westmoreland Now & Forever Fund does not generally award grants for general operating purposes, sectarian purposes, private or parochial schools, individual public schools, individual hospitals, organizations that address individual diseases, capital campaigns, special events, scholarships or internships.
